Giving is a wonderful thing. Whether you volunteer your time or your hard earned dollars, it’s important to give back to your local community and your global community alike. Giving Tuesday is the one day a year when philanthropic organizations and individuals pledge to match monetary gifts made to charities and non-profits.
Previously, we shared where we were pledging our personal donations (we’d love for Epic Publishing to be one of those philanthropic donors who match gifts, but for now that is still in the #goals column). We’d like to do the same again, but we’re also going to share some of the places our authors like to donate to as well.
This year, the Epic Publishing staff members donated to (we’ve included links in case you’d also like to donate to any of these wonderful groups):
When we reached out to our authors to see where they plan to donate or already have, they told us, they like the following charitable groups:
- American Cancer Society
- Buffalo City Mission
- North Shore Animal League
- San Jose Animal Care
- Second Harvest
- St. Jude’s
San Jose Animal Care is a favorite of Gerry Griffiths, who said he likes to donate every time he renews his four dogs’ (yes, FOUR!) licenses.
Whatever your reason for giving, we hope you will give something to the charity of your choice today. Matching goes until midnight. Even $5 can make a difference. And if you can’t give a monetary donation, consider volunteering a little of your time. There isn’t a charity out there who isn’t in need of volunteers.
Go to your local food pantry and pack boxes. Walk dogs and clean out food and water dishes at your local animal shelter. Hand out meals at your local homeless shelter. There’s always something you can do to help out.
