In case you haven’t heard, the day after Cyber Monday, which falls after Black Friday (weekend), is called Giving Tuesday. This is the day that many corporations and philanthropists will match donations made by individuals to nonprofit organizations like Feeding America, the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC), and others.
Giving Tuesday is especially important right now, with the ongoing pandemic and economic upheavals taking place around the world. The demand for many nonprofits’ services are at an all-time high while donations to them are at all-time lows. Even small donations today can make a big impact on a nonprofit’s future ability to help those in need.
Some day, we hope Epic Publishing will both have a nonprofit status and be able to aid in matching donations. For now, though, we are just participants on the donation side. Since our home base is in Pittsburgh, PA, we donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank. We’re happy to see that our donation is getting a TRIPLE match on this Giving Tuesday, thanks to some local corporations and individual philanthropists. We also donated to The Nature Conservancy.
We hope you’ll join us in the giving today. Any amount helps an organization do what they do, even if you can only spare $5. If you are participating in Giving Tuesday, we hope you’ll spread the word about your favorite nonprofits to your friends and family.
Update 12/2/2021: The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank set a goal of reaching enough funding to provide 600,000 meals to needy families in Pittsburgh. They exceeded their goal, thanks to the generosity of small donors and large donors. By a lot. They achieved enough donations to provide 2,000,000 meals! We couldn’t be happier for them.
