Fantasy and sci-fi book publishers are a part of a unique community. At Epic Publishing, we are saddened every time we hear about a publisher closing its doors. When it’s a press as beloved in the book community as Subterranean Press is, we feel the loss even more strongly.
We don’t have a lot of specifics at this time, beyond what was posted in the Locus Magazinge article, where publisher Bill Shafer is quoted as saying the Subterranean may complete some of their long running series or try to place them with other publishers.
Epic Publishing has previously opened for second-life submissions* from authors whose publishers have closer their doors. Without knowing more about the impending closure of Subterranean, we can’t say at this time whether we’ll do the same in this case.

*Second-life submissions = books that were previously published under another publisher, but the publication rights were reverted to the author, either due to the publisher closing or downsizing their back catalog.
